5. Hetu Hetu Sampayutta Duka:
(ii) (1086). What are the dhamma which are associated with root causes
but are not root causes?
Because of root causes associating with them, there are dhamma which are associated with root causes. Leaving aside the associating root causes from the dhamma which have root causes, there are the remaining aggregate of Sensation, the aggregate of Perception, the aggregate of Volitional Activities and the aggregate of Consciousness.
~These are the dhamma which are associated with root causes but are not
root causes.
(ii) (1450). What are the dhamma which are associated with root causes but
are not root causes?
There are: (21) meritorious thoughts of the four spheres; (12) demeritorious thoughts; (21) resultants of the four spheres, leaving aside resultants without root causes from resultants of the Sensuous Sphere; (17 types of) non-causative action, which are neither meritorious nor demeritorious of the three spheres leaving aside non-causative action of the Sensuous Sphere.
Leaving aside root causes from the above thoughts, there are the remaining thoughts, i.e., the dhamma which are associated with root causes but are not root causes.
~These are the dhamma which are associated with root causes but are not
root causes.
Dhamma which are not associated with root causes should not be taken as dhamma which are root causes and are also associated with root causes, or as dhamma which are associated with root causes but are not root causes.
