277. What are the meritorious dhamma?
When at a certain time one practises supramundane mental concentration for the purpose of eradication of wrong views (and other similar demeritorious factors, such as doubt, etc.) and for the attainment of the first level of enlightenment (Sotapatti Magga) which leads to liberation from the ills and sufferings of existence and which leads to destruction of death and rebirth, and by getting detached from sensual pleasures ...p... he achieves and remains in the first jhana,
- then at that time there arises:
